Boys Hockey season wrapping up for CLC

As the boy’s hockey regular season winds down, some teams atop the Central Lakes Conference will test their metal against some of the tougher teams in the state. With only 4 games to go for the Tech Tigers, and 2 the Brainerd Warriors, its crunch time for a playoff push. Both teams will be in action this upcoming Thursday as Tech will be traveling to Fergas Falls, and Brainerd will be hosting Sartell – St Stephen.

The tougher of the two schedules is by far the St Cloud Tech Tigers. Not only are the Tigers six points back from Brainerd, they will have back to back nights on the road, including the long ride up north to Roseau. The Tigers keep feeding their leader in both points and goals Tanner Skaja. Not only has Skaja been efficient scoring, he’s been distributing the puck outstandingly with 29 assists on the season. The junior will look to keep it rolling over the final weeks of the regular season.

The leader of the Central Lakes Conference is the Brainerd Warriors, holding a six point lead over the Tigers, and winners in 7 of their last 8 games. The Warriors have found their scoring stride at the right time, after losing to Roseau, the Warriors have exploded with 13 goals over their last 2 wins over Buffalo and Willmar. Brainerd will have its final two games on its home ice, as they will host Sartell – St Stephen on Thursday, and Bemidji on Tuesday the 12th. Brainerd looks like the team to beat in the CLC as they continue to lean on their junior trio to continue their point’s barrage. Juniors Cole Smith, Jacob Ellingson, and Logan Rivard lead the Warriors in points, with all 3 having over 30 points this season.

It should be an interesting couple weeks to round out the CLC regular season. Can the Tigers make a run at Brainerd? Can Alex Skaja keep is great season going? Can Brainerd’s junior trio keep its scoring ways? We will all find out as another great regular season comes to a close.
