A Look Back At the 2012 Football Season
It seems like only weeks ago that we had so many questions at the start of the High School football season. Could Jacob Peterson carry the Tigers? Could Sartell find someone to carry the load? Was Mac Mueller going to be able to fill the shoes of Nate Meyer? Could Apollo break their losing streak?
Only a handful of weeks later, we have answered those questions.
I haven’t been around Central Minnesota Football for very long, but I don’t know if I have enjoyed a season of high school football more than this season. Every single week was a toss-up. Sauk Rapids-Rice got their sole win on the season against defending state champion Rocori. Seriously. If that isn’t enough, how about Apollo breaking a 22-game losing streak late in the season and turning that into a playoff run in the state playoffs?
It reminds me of the NFL. The saying “Any given Sunday” means that anyone can beat anyone on a certain weekend. Maybe the Metro Sports Commission should adopt the slogan of “Any given Friday” for next year. Speaking of next year, look at how many young kids will be back next season for another go round in the Metro Sports Commission. Is it too early to say that Apollo may be the favorite?
292 days and counting until we do this again. I’m ready.
